” ‘I could arrest you for dressing like that.’ “

-Jade Presley, The Never List, First Line

Hello friends!!!

I feel like it’s been ages since I’ve done just a basic book review, but here I am! I just finished reading The Never List recently and I wanna talk about it. Fair warning, this is probably going to be more like a “vibes” type of review. I didn’t annotate at all on this one for some reason but I still want to talk about it.

As always, lets look at some data!

  • Author: Jade Presley
  • Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Why Choose
  • Spice: Yes. She’s spicy.
  • Trigger Warnings: Listed at the front of the book!
  • Pages: 417
  • Published: 2025
  • Publisher: Red Tower Books
  • Series: The Never List Book 1
  • Goodreads Rating: 3.99
  • StoryGraph Rating: 3.91

This book was just what I needed at this particular time. I am reading an Epic Fantasy, which I love but also it takes a lot out of me. This was a wonderful break and I was able to just enjoy the vibes of the book. Of course, this means that I don’t necessarily have the most technical review here for you, but I’m quite often more of a vibe reader anyways.

First thing to note is that this is a Why Choose romance. That means that our female main character (FMC) ends up with all of the potential romance options, hence the name “Why Choose”. This particular book has 4 romance options and everything fits together pretty smoothly in the sense of how the 4 love interests interact with our FMC.

This is not a difficult book to get through in any fashion. I believe it took me a few days (with many of those days being no reading days) but I think I finished the last 2/3rds of the book in one sitting. I was just incredibly locked in on what was happening. The plot in this book was enough to keep me interested. This is not a book with spice for the sake of spice (not that there is anything wrong with that). There is a plot with political intrigue and the fate of the kingdom in the balance, and I was so mad when I realized this was a series because I wanted the answers and I didn’t get them. Now I have to wait. This book ends on a cliffhanger so if you want to know what’s going on, maybe wait for the second book to come out and then just binge them.

The characters in the book are well written and I feel like the 4 love interests are distinct enough. The edition I have of this novel does have custom endpapers that include images of the four men. I loved having that available because I would often flip over so I could remember what each person looked like. That’s not due to a lack of description by the author but more of a “me as a reader” type of issue. I also just love to have art as a reference. It’s nice. I’d like to see it more (just not as the cover art please).

I did say this was a vibes kind of review and the vibes were good with this one. I had a blast reading it and I was genuinely upset to find out that it’s a series. For some reason, I started this book and read the entire thing thinking it was a standalone. The betrayal! I now have to wait to find out what happens. The audacity!!

So anyways, I really enjoyed the book and in the end awarded it the honor of a 4 star. Why not a 5 star? Well, I reserve that for books that I 100% believe I will read again and again. While the vibes were good, I wasn’t sure that this was that type of book for me and because of that, it gets a 4 star. That’s still amazing honestly. I consider anything 3 and up a good review.

So that’s it for this week. I know this probably should have been the monthly wrap-up post, but I really wanted to get this review out before everything about it leaves my mind. I’m not sure this is my best review but I genuinely had a good time with this book. I even recommended it to a handful of my friends in our little book group chat we have. I’ll recommend it to you as well if this sounds like your cup of tea. Leave me your thoughts down below! Until next time.

Bye friends!!!
