I did it again. I impulsively purchased another blind date with a book and so now I’m here to share what I think about it with you. This box is from TikTok like the last one that I reviewed, however, this box was advertised as a Halloween Themed Book Box. Considering that it is October I thought it would be fun to try out a new one and if I’m perfectly honest, I’m so behind on my reading right now.

So lets get into it!

This box was purchased from a small business on TikTok called Candlelit Chapters. At the time I’m writing this, they do have a Shopify webpage, but it is quite bare. I believe that this is quite a new shop so they probably have limited availability as well as product to be able to put these boxes together. I looked at their TikTok shop as well and found that they have only sold a little over 100 of the products they offer combine. On TikTok they do have 3 products listed with an Adult or Young Adult version of the Halloween Themed Boo Box as well as a book only option. There was no option on the listing itself to select a genre or customize the box. I also did not see anywhere to leave a note for the seller, although it is possible that I might have missed it.

The box I bought was the adult one at $58 USD with free shipping. I ordered it on October 12th and received the box on October 18th. This was a pleasantly quick turnaround time. I had expected it to take longer because it seems to be a new small business, but I was pleasantly surprised. The box itself had shreds of green, black and purple paper inside the box along with a black tissue paper. The more breakable items were wrapped up nicely with an extra layer of bubble wrap. Everything came in one piece with no damage that I could find.

In total I got 21 items not including the book. For $58, that’s honestly really nice. I partially picked this box because some of the items were not ones that I had seen in previous book boxes with the homemade crocheted stuffy being the primary draw for buying this box in the first place. The little witchy creature I got is a good size and very soft. The craftmanship is really nice and I love how cute it is. The pumpkin bookmark that I received in the box looks like it might be 3D printed and I honestly really like the texture on it. I also got 3 different tea options (which I absolutely love) as well as a couple little sweet treats (which were consumed almost immediately).

There were a couple of items that I am less enthusiastic about. The fake nails are cute but too long for me to use and they don’t look like ones that I’d be able to trim down and keep the design. I’m also not huge on lip masks like the one sent, but that is primarily because I don’t really like the texture of them on my lips. The spider sticky notes are really cute, but I probably won’t get a ton of use out of them for their intended purpose anyways. I both love and hate the mug, primarily because I have too many mugs and my partner and I are on a “buy a mug, remove a mug” system. I will probably end up using this one to store pens or bookmarks, or even just as a fun decoration on my bookshelf.

Alright, you’ve made it this far. I guess I can tell you about the book I got. Previously, I did state that there was no option to choose genre or anything. I had assumed that this meant that it was probably a spooky book, maybe a horror or thriller. Something that would suit the theme of the box. The book did come in that classic wrapping style we see most blind date books come in. Unfortunately I didn’t think to take a picture of the wrapping paper but just know it was super cute.

This is the surprise of all surprises because I had not heard about this book before and I don’t know that it’s something that I would typically pick up for myself. I kinda like that here. Sometimes I want a little bit of control (like genre) but this time I enjoyed not having any real control over what I would get. No guarentee that I’ll like the book but that’s okay! It gets me out of my usual trends and lets me try something new. This is a dark romance book and I don’t read a lot of those but I know they are quite popular. I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve read it.

So that’s the whole thing. Honestly, this box was fun and I was genuinely happy when I opened it. The stuffy is just adorable and I love that there are some handmade items in the box. The shop is small and only has a few items, but if they keep up with this kind of quality, I see no reason why it can’t grow and have more options available. I do appreciate that there is an option or Adult for Young Adult on the TikTok Shop, especially if you want to get this as a gift for a younger reader.

There are some improvements that could be made, mostly with the shopify shop. I don’t know what options they provide when you create a shopify shop, however, it would be nice to see a little “about me” section talking about starting the shop and what the goals are in the long term. I love supporting a small business, but I also love knowing more about that small business as well.

In the end, I would definitely recommend this book box if you want a fun little spooky surprise. I would say that you might want to order from the TikTok Shop instead of the Shopify if you want to have control over Adult vs Young Adult. That being said, maybe there is a way to select that on the Shopify site that I didn’t see.
