Hello Friends!

I’ve once again decided to combine the two (the wrap-up and the TBR) in the same blog post. I feel like they just belong together. Like Danny and Sandy or Bagels and Cream Cheese. Or something else.

So I’ll give you the previous months stats as well as this months stats. I know this is going up June 1st so that doesn’t really make sense, but I promise it makes sense once I put up the headings!

Okay so I didn’t really need to buy more books or start more series.

But I did. I bought 6 books to prepare for being all by myself for 2 weeks while my other half is away for work. It means that I’ll have lots of time to read and somehow I’ll probably only read 2 books (as per usual). I am behind on my 30 book goal for this year, but there’s still time! I also keep starting more series but I have finished any yet. I’ve caught up on some (as in I’ve read all that in currently published), but haven’t completed any yet. I might have to try and come up with a fun way to get through a series but the fact is, I have a lot of 1st book in a series without any of the following books. I think I’ll have to check out my local library and see if I can manage to find some of the sequels to these series I’ve started.

I do have reviews out for both of the book’s I read in May. The Wren in the Holly Library was a mid book for me but I’m willing to try out the second book (which comes out in June this year). We will see how that goes but if I don’t like the second book, I don’t believe I’ll continue to read the series. On the other side Stalking Jack the Ripper turned out to be a lot more fun that I expected. It doesn’t have the best reviews on the platforms I usually use, but I enjoyed it quite a lot and could see myself reading it again. If I continue with this series and don’t like it, I’ll also stop reading the series but I’ll probably keep at least the first book.

The TBR Picks

Attack of the TBR tin of doom! I only read 1 of the 3 picks from last month and so Zodiac Academy book 1 and Furyborn went back into the tin to be picked again. I selected three more books and I have one book that is from the stack I had purchased that I am currently reading. I’ll give you the details on each one!

Current Read

Book cover of 'How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying' by Django Wexler, featuring bold colorful text and a character in a dark robe with a skull staff against a forest backdrop.

This book is absolutely fantastic so far. I’m about 50% of the way through it and it’s just what I needed right now. I’m excited to bring the review to you guys but for now I’ll just leave the synopsis so you can see if you want to read it!

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Groundhog Day meets Guardians of the Galaxy in Django Wexler’s laugh-out-loud fantasy tale about a young woman who, tired of defending humanity from the Dark Lord, decides to become the Dark Lord herself.

Davi has done this all before. She’s tried to be the hero and take down the all-powerful Dark Lord. A hundred times she’s rallied humanity and made the final charge. But the time loop always gets her in the end. Sometimes she’s killed quickly. Sometimes it takes a while. But she’s been defeated every time.

This time? She’s done being the hero and done being stuck in this endless time loop. If the Dark Lord always wins, then maybe that’s who she needs to be. It’s Davi’s turn to play on the winning side.

Shocking news, this is apparently the third book in this series but I don’t think they need to be read in order, at least, I hope that’s the case because this is the only one in the series I own!

Synopsis from Goodreads:

What if Belle’s mother cursed the Beast?

When Belle touches the Beast’s enchanted rose, memories flood through Belle’s mind — memories of a mother she thought she would never see again. And, stranger still, she sees that her mother is none other than the beautiful enchantress who cursed the castle and all its inhabitants.

Shocked and confused, Belle and the Beast will have to unravel a dark mystery about their families that is 21 years in the making.

As Old as Time is the third book in a new YA line that reimagines classic Disney stories in surprising new ways.

Read my review of this book HERE (if you want)

This is apparently the first novel by this author, but they have written short stories that have been featured in different publications. This is another silly, fun type of fantasy and those have been really a good time recently so I’m actually quite excited to read this one.

Synopsis from Goodreads

A sharp-witted, high fantasy farce featuring killer moat squid, toxic masculinity, evil wizards and a garlic festival – all at once. Perfect for fans of T. Kingfisher, K. J. Parker and Travis Baldree.

It’s bad enough waking up in a half-destroyed evil wizard’s workshop with no eyebrows, no memories, and no idea how long you have before the Dread Lord Whomever shows up to murder you horribly and then turn your skull into a goblet or something.
It’s a lot worse when you realize that Dread Lord Whomever is… you.
Gav isn’t really sure how he ended up with a castle full of goblins, or why he has a princess locked in a cell. All he can do is play along with his own evil plan in hopes of getting his memories back before he gets himself killed.
But as he realizes that nothing – from the incredibly tasteless cloak adorned with flames to the aforementioned princess – is quite what it seems, Gav must face up to all the things the Dread Lord Gavrax has done. And he’ll have to answer the hardest question of all – who does he want to be?
Dread Lord Gavrax has had better weeks.

I have actually started this book previously and put it down. Don’t ask me why because I don’t know. I bought this book because I was actually reading the Web Comic based on it, but I was caught up and wanted to know what happened while the comic was on Hiatus. Needless to say, I didn’t find out considering I still haven’t read the book.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Dexter meets This Savage Song in this dark fantasy about a girl who sells magical body parts on the black market — until she’s betrayed.

Nita doesn’t murder supernatural beings and sell their body parts on the internet—her mother does that. Nita just dissects the bodies after they’ve been “acquired.” But when her mom brings home a live specimen, Nita decides she wants out — dissecting living people is a step too far.

But when she tries to save her mother’s victim, she ends up sold on the black market in his place — because Nita herself is a supernatural being. Now Nita is on the other side of the bars, and there is no line she won’t cross to escape and make sure no one can ever capture her again.

Nita did a good deed, and it cost her everything. Now she’s going to do a lot of bad deeds to get it all back.

The Wrap Up

So that’s everything! I hope to get at least 2 of the 3 books from the TBR tin completed and off my TBR cart (mostly because I have no room for the newest purchases on the cart). What are you guys reading for June? Do you do the TBR picks or do you just read what you bought?

As always, thanks for coming and checking out my blog!!

Bye friends!!!
